Q How do I recognise coral spot?
A Raised orange- to coral-coloured pustules appear on dead and dying stems, sometimes only becoming apparent when the stem has been dead for several weeks. Further dieback occurs and spreads into previously healthy wood. Currants are particularly susceptible.

Q What can I do if my plants have coral spot?
A Prune out infected areas promptly, cutting back into healthy wood, and dispose of all prunings by binning or burning.
Q How can I prevent coral spot?
A Remove dead and dying stems from plants promptly, before the pustules appear, as this will reduce spread of the infection by spores produced from the pustules. Collect up twigs and other dead wood, as these are likely to harbour the infection. Bin or burn any infected or suspect material and do not compost, shred or chip it.
