Growing bags are a popular way of growing greenhouse veg, such as tomatoes and cucumbers. Rather than throwing them away at the end of the season, you can reuse them for several more crops.

Winter salad
At the end of the tomato-growing season in September, remove the tomato plants and sow some salad leaves in leaves. Give these a feed while they grow and then the leaves should be ready to pick the following spring.
Strawberries
Remove the salad leaves and mix some sulphate of potash into the compost in the bags. Plant three strawberry plants per bag. These will fruit in the summer and will produce a small but very welcome bonus crop.
